Rotary Club of Loxton

The Rotary Club of Loxton was chartered in 1958 and has been an active contributor to the Loxton community ever since. Our Club also provides support across the region and other parts of Australia, as well as less fortunate places in the world where we believe we can make a difference.

It is one of more than 85 Rotary Clubs in Rotary International District 9510, which includes most of South Australia, parts of the Northern Territory as well as Broken Hill and Mildura.

General Meetings are held twice monthly, usually during a meal at the Loxton Hotel or the Loxton Club. Occasionally we meet at other locations to provide interest, education, or fellowship for our members and others present. Guests are often invited to join us, especially spouses and partners of members who are always welcome.

Most meetings include a guest speaker to provide education, enlightenment, or entertainment for those present. Sometimes the speaker has been the recipient of a Rotary donation or support, and they tell us how our backing has assisted in their circumstances or cause. Occasionally we invite an individual or group to pitch an idea or a request for support. Speaker themes can vary widely and may be broadly topical matters, items simply of local interest, or Rotary programs from elsewhere. The intention is for the speaker to be the focus of the evening and to be interesting and relevant.

Minimal Rotary business is conducted at General Meetings, with a Board undertaking most of the decision making and planning at separate monthly meetings. However, at General Meetings there are usually short reports to inform members of activities and decisions undertaken at the Board level, with an opportunity for questions and feedback.

Although meetings are semi-formal in format, the tone is usually very casual and friendly. Dress code is just neat-casual.

Roughly quarterly, an Assembly Meeting is held which is intended for members only, and is an open forum for any matters to be raised and to hold the Board to account.

Rotarians from anywhere in the world are always welcome at meetings. For any non-Rotarian who would like to attend a meeting as a guest, don’t wait to be asked, make contact with any member to arrange an appropriate meeting or event to join us. Contact can be made by email at loxton@rotaryclub.org.au or call 0455 896 380 and leave a message.
